Yes, I think the good news here is the fact that more people now know how LGBTQ teachers are and will be treated by many bishops and school administrators. And how students in these schools will be affected by this. Not good places for LGBTQ people and their allies. There’s something about Catholic teaching itself that singles out LGBTQ people for this added stigma — the framing of same-gender sexual preference as “intrinsically disordered,” rooted the Aquinas teaching. There are really no indications that the hierarchy will do much besides hunker down and try to be a little less ham-handed in implementing the stigma in the future. Still Vatican 2 gave some credence to the “voice of the people” and it’s heartening to see Catholics using it.
