The text you cited is apt. The churches that discriminate against LGBTQ people are generally run by men who can’t imagine what it’s like to be romantically attracted to other men. Their churches can grow and be successful without (openly) LGBTQ+ people. If they do change their minds on this matter and speak of it openly, or refuse to execute the stigmatizing policies (no gay ordination, no gay marriage), they enter a world of hurt — financial loss for the church (liberals give much less than do conservatives), and loss of job. Many of my former colleagues in this sector of Christianity would have made the change to full inclusion without these powerful disincentives at play. The disincentives are so powerful that they prevent many from even exploring the question with an open mind.
