So true. The simplicity seems a lame thing to criticize, except that it is everywhere. Max Lucado represents so much "successful evangelical" preaching. And it crowds out complexity. A simple sermon now and then? Yes, we need it. But these sermons suck up all the oxygen in evangelical mega-spaces. Complex issues like sexuality, systemic racism, climate change, pandemic, Trumpism, and all the rest CANNOT be broached in these spaces.
