@Matt079204 I don’t want to keep you on this forever. But I have to say that there is a huge difference between 1st Century Jesus followers in the Roman Empire, run by an all powerful Ceasar, with no democratic processes at all, and followers of Jesus in a democracy. We have a much greater responsibility for engagement and our following Jesus must inform that engagement. We ought to vote, at the very least. And that means deciding who and what to vote for — it involves us in the political process. If you talk to followers of Jesus in our 21st Century context who are people of color or other oppressed minorities, they will surely point out that when a person who is on the right side of the power stick (yes, as a white male) advocates for such a hands off approach and such a strong wall between the “secular” and the “sacred” — a wall that justifies non-involvement — well, it kind of figures. We can afford to be non affected by race, gender, sexuality, etc. , because all the majority positions work in our favor. Put yourself in the shoes of people who do not enjoy your advantages. Let the gospel of Jesus empower you to act on behalf of those with lesser advantages, and not just by what you say and do in church.
