Joe Kupecz Thanks for your thoughtful response to my piece. I appreciate the bit about the significance of gendered nouns in other languages, but my piece offers other evidence for the thesis that Jesus identified with Wisdom as a figure widely understood to be a feminine presence. There is a long and very explicit tradition for this, including, of course, the depictions of wisdom in Proverbs as “Lady Wisdom.” I also offered the evidence that Jesus violated what can reasonably be construed as masculine gender norms of his time. Of course the term “gender fluid” is an anachronism, though I think there is plenty of evidence that in the second temple period the sages, rabbis, etc had a more nuanced view of gender than we think, including the identification of several gender variations.
