Alan, the data on giving vis a vis liberal - conservative is proporitonal giving. Those who are lower-economic tend to give more than the wealthy as a proportion of income. Possibly because they are in closer contact with people in need and more likely to respond with empathy. I think it's fair to say that politically liberal policies help the poor much more than politically conservative policies do, but at the level of public policy, not personal charitable giving.
