Actually the Roman Catholic view of Scripture does seek to take into account the cultural-historical-grammatical context of given texts. And this is what I advocate as well. What was Romans 1 addressing? Does it seem to fit modern day monogamous gay couples? Or does it better fit pederasty (older men taking advantage of pre-pubescent boys) masters abusig slaves, temple prostitution, orgiastic sex, etc., all of which were rampant in that period. The Catholic Church after WW2, did this work on a handful of texts that were used to blame all Jewish people for the death of Christ, reversed that interpretation, repented of its impact and changed course — thanks to Vatican 2. Something like this is necessary for the texts used to such harmful effect on LGBTQ+ people. As to being identified either as Roman Catholic or Evangelical, I don’t wish to carry either designation. Just like so many of us, I’m just doing my best to follow Jesus.
